Qualification:

Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry

Overview & Objective:

The NOCN Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry has been developed to meet the training and licensing requirements of the SIA which regulates the sector under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The legislation requires individuals working in the sector to be licensed. The SIA is responsible for licensing and has specified the criteria for obtaining a licence, one of which is the achievement of the qualification.

The qualification provides full coverage of the competences specified by the SIA, and therefore meets their requirements for a licence-linked qualification.

The qualification is knowledge-based and consists of three mandatory units.

The qualification will provide learners with an opportunity to:

– Gain an understanding of the role of a security officer within the private security industry.
– Achieve a standalone qualification that enables them to apply for a Security Industry Authority licence to work as a security officer.

Overview & Objective:

Age Ranges
This qualification is approved for delivery to learners aged 16 and over. However, an SIA license cannot be applied for until the age of 18.

Language pre-requisite
Security operatives are likely during their work to be required to make calls to the emergency services or need to communicate clearly to resolve conflict. It is therefore essential that security operatives can communicate clearly.

Please note if you don’t have equivalent to any of the following, we will assess your English language level. your result will determine your eligibility for the course.

As a guide, learners should, as a minimum, have language skills equivalent to the following:
•    a B1 level qualification on the Home Office’s list of recognised English tests and qualifications
•    an ESOL qualification at (Level 1) on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland
•    an ESOL qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)        and taken in Scotland
•    Functional Skills Level 1 in English
•    SQA Core Skills in Communication at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 5
•    Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1

Guidance on Assessment:

Unit 1 – Working within Private Security Industry
40-questions multiple-choice examination paper. Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40. Examination duration – 60 minutes

Unit 2 – Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry.
40-questions multiple-choice examination paper. Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40. Examination duration – 60 minutes

Unit 3 – Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
20-questions multiple-choice examination paper. Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 14 out of 20. Examination duration – 30 minutes

Progression Opportunities:

This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the NVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry such as CCTV Operations or Door Supervision.
