BRSV Awareness Project

PYCA’s Building Resilience and Sharing Values (BRSV) awareness project has been funded by the Youth Justice Board’s (YJB), Building A Stronger Britain Programme (BSBT).

The project is part of the YJB’s new initiatives addressing factors which put young people at risk of being drawn into criminality and violence motivated by extremism, through the BSBT Programme which aims to address some of the following intervention areas:

  • Addressing issues around identity and citizenship
  • Strengthening the resilience of venerable individuals to violent extremist influences which can lead to the criminalisation of young people
  • Enabling young people to express their views in non-violent ways
  • Challenging stereotypes and ‘myth busting’
  • Promoting shared values and encouraging dialogue and engagement between communities

PYCA has proposed a one-year awareness project in Leicester to tackle two of the interventions mentioned above:

  • Promoting shared values and encouraging dialogue and engagement between communities
  • Strengthening the resilience of vulnerable individuals to violent extremism influences which can lead to the criminalisation of young people.

The project aims are to:

  • Raise awareness of the radicalization process and empower community members with the right tools, skills and knowledge, enabling them to better protect their children being exposed to influential persons with radicalistic views and opinions.
  • Increase civic participation within the communities of Leicester, by breaking down barriers and bringing together different schools of Islam, where there are natural animosities, friction and stereotypes.
